March 12, 2018 – PITTSBURGH, PA

The new Pittsburgh-area addiction treatment services provider to offer a wide-range of evidenced-based and holistic treatment services, including Medication Assisted Treatment.

To help meet the Pittsburgh region’s increasing needs for addiction treatment, LaurelCare Treatment Services has opened a new facility in Kennedy Township. At the new facility, LaurelCare will provide outpatient rehabilitation, partial hospitalization, medication assisted treatment and aftercare support services.

“I know first-hand the pain and struggles that individuals and families dealing with addiction face everyday,” shared Phil Tanner, CEO and founder of LaurelCare Treatment Services. “I lost my brother to addiction and it is my mission, along with the entire LaurelCare team, to provide addiction treatment services that break the destructive cycle of addiction.

“We offer personalized addiction treatment plans as part of an evidence-based and holistic approach. Evidence-based means the treatments have been clinically proven to work and holistic implies therapies that are designed to treat the whole person – mind, body and spirit. LaurelCare is committed to providing the treatment, tools and support that people struggling with addiction need and deserve to rebuild their lives, which includes medication assisted treatment,” said Tanner.

Even though studies show that medication assisted treatment reduces opioid use, opioid-related overdose deaths and the incidence of relapse, according to national data that has been cited by leaders in the fight against the opioid epidemic, including Alex Azar, the U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary, only about one third of the country’s addiction treatment centers offer medication assisted treatment.

The Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration defines medication assisted treatment as the use of medications in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies for the treatment of substance use disorders. LaurelCare offers medication assisted treatment, as just one of the important offerings in the new facility’s comprehensive and evidence-based service offerings to treat drug and alcohol addiction.

Allegheny County’s Department of Human Services announced earlier this year that the County is experiencing opioid-related overdose rates that are higher than figures at both the state level for Pennsylvania, and the national level. In 2016, 93 percent of overdose deaths in the County were opioid-related and 2016 represented the third consecutive year in which the number of fatal overdoses was higher than in any prior year. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Pennsylvania had the nation’s fourth-highest rate of drug overdose deaths in 2016.
