JUNE 8, 2018 – PITTSBURGH, PA

To provide a full continuum of accessible and effective addiction treatment services, the new Pittsburgh-area addiction treatment services provider now offers Outpatient Detox treatment services.

LaurelCare Treatment Services, a new provider of drug and alcohol addiction treatment services to the Pittsburgh region, today announced it is now licensed to provide ambulatory detoxification services, often referred to as outpatient detox.   This alternative detoxification approach can offer some individuals the same benefits of traditional inpatient detoxification, while being less restrictive and more cost-effective.   In addition to outpatient detox, LaurelCare’s Kennedy Township-based facility also provides outpatient rehabilitation, partial hospitalization, medication assisted treatment and aftercare support services.

“There is a growing need in our region for more accessible and effective drug and alcohol treatment options,” shared Phil Tanner, CEO and founder of LaurelCare Treatment Services. “Addiction treatment is not a one-size-fits-all science. The approach and treatment that works for one person may not be ideal for someone else. As new and proven technologies and treatment methodologies become available, especially in combating our region’s opioid epidemic, it is essential that treatment providers do all that we can to make new and effective options more available to better meet the needs of our community.

“LaurelCare is proud to announce that we can bring this clinically-proven detox option to those in our region that can benefit from its less restrictive approach. As with all of our treatment services, we bring together a multidisciplinary team of substance abuse professionals to provide a comprehensive treatment plan that includes medical health monitoring, as well as behavioral health support and therapy,” Tanner said.

Findings from a 2015 clinical trial funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) indicate that brief and intensive outpatient detox programs, followed by medication assisted treatment, were very effective in initiating and maintaining abstinence from opioid drug use among people addicted to opioid drugs. According to NIDA, patients in the trial achieved higher abstinence rates than are typically obtained with traditional detoxification regimens.

Allegheny County’s Department of Human Services announced earlier this year that the County is experiencing opioid-related overdose rates that are higher than figures at both the state level for Pennsylvania and the national level.  In 2016, 93 percent of overdose deaths in the County were opioid-related and 2016 represented the third consecutive year in which the number of fatal overdoses was higher than in any prior year. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Pennsylvania had the nation’s fourth-highest rate of drug overdose deaths in 2016.
